unplugged

i have never been a fan of social media. i’ve had awesome connections here, long night conversations and what have you (i think i’ve experienced it all). and yet, every time i land back in the spot i once left, i am tired. i want to be stripped of these attention-draining apps, locking the backdoor and throwing the key into a deep, metaphoric ocean where finding it wouldn’t be possible anymore.

i have multiple items on my bucket list and my socials keep cannibalizing my progress. it’s not an argument about discipline, it’s about my environment. i prune like a lawn mower, everything present has my attention, so i’m clearing the field. if you’re wondering about friends, family, or school, i can reach them via iMessage and WhatsApp. other socials drain my energy rather than provide value, i even have all statuses on my whatsapp muted and barely checked.

growing up, i’ve learnt one thing: life is about choices and consequences. after much consideration, and keeping in mind that i won’t be using my socials as a creator, at least for now, i’ve made my choice. i enjoy creating short films, if i do, i’ll upload them to my youtube. i take photos for fun, so i created a private gallery to showcase the images i fancy.

but for everything else, i am fine making use of just X and GitHub.

i might take down my linkedin profile, or at least delete the app and check it only at an infrequent, almost accidental interval. my focus will be solely on X, GitHub (to read through OSS), and Feedly, where i have all my favorite reads like browndroppings and other cool blogs. i’ll be deleting my instagram, snapchat, and tiktok. i’m uninstalling facebook, though i’ll leave my account as-is since i don’t have a use case for it anymore. i don’t wish to partake in the constant information overload.

my brain is overstimulated. this is simply a way to recalibrate and build myself into the version i want to be.
